Stress is the leading cause of workplace sickness and absenteeism and the Education sector is hit the hardest?

Of the 26.8 million working days lost to ill health last year a staggering 57% - 15.4 million days – were due to stress, depression or anxiety.

According to The Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD), the average level of employee absence in the UK is 6.3 days per employee. Stress, acute medical conditions and mental ill-health are the most common causes of long-term absence; and significant numbers of people take time off sick from the effects of overwhelm and burnout.

The school environment can be so incredibly rewarding yet also challenging and there seem to be increasing demands on teachers and staff.

Why invest in Well-being and Resilience Services?

The basic cost of absence in schools is approximately £797 per employee for primary schools and £1328 per employee for secondary schools (based on working days lost at approximately 7.4 according to CiPD Absence Management Survey 2016). However, in reality, this figure is much higher because it is exclusively based on the salaries of employees on sick leave rather than the cost of temporary supply cover, overheads and indirect costs associated with reduced effectiveness of supply cover on student progress. It doesn’t take into account the supervision of a replacement, team morale and the impact on standards. Therefore, costs are most likely doubled and standards almost definitely reduced.

We are on a mission to change the way stress is viewed and understood.  We will help you recognise symptoms of stress and how to manage them both individually and organisationally by understanding the importance of developing resilience, mental fitness and emotional well-being.  We will come in and troubleshoot problem areas and provide everything you need to ensure reduced absenteeism and enhanced productivity that will drive profitability.

One way we do this is by providing an overall well-being and resilience assessment and report showing you the areas of strength and areas requiring improvement. This outcome measure can be used to track change and measure impact of stress reduction in your organisation.
